Legends Golf & Resort

The project
Henderson Golf provided new golf course construction for The Piper, a nine-hole, par-3 course at Legends Golf Resort in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Designed by Ken Baker of Baker Golf Design, the 12-acre short course was developed within Legends' existing 30-acre practice facility as a new kind of golf experience for the resort. With holes ranging from approximately 54 to 122 yards, The Piper combines a links-inspired design with a compact, walkable layout created for creative shotmaking, social play, and rounds under the lights.
The challenge
The vision for The Piper went beyond simply adding nine golf holes. Legends wanted to transform a portion of its existing practice facility into a distinctive short-course experience that could complement its championship courses while appealing to both avid golfers and players looking for a faster, more social way to enjoy the game. The compact site also needed to accommodate a creative golf course alongside existing practice amenities, while supporting three-hole loops, evening play, spectator visibility, and nearby food, beverage, and entertainment areas.
Our approach
Working from Baker Golf Design's vision, Henderson Golf brought the new course to life within the existing Legends property. Construction required translating a compact, links-inspired design into nine distinctive par-3 holes where contours and ground movement play an important role in the golf experience. Open approaches to the greens were designed to encourage a variety of shots, while the routing was constructed to support easy movement through three-hole loops and maintain the connected feel envisioned for the property. The result required careful golf course construction and shaping within a relatively small footprint while preserving the architect's emphasis on creativity, visibility, and playability.
The result
The Piper expands Legends Golf Resort with an entirely new golf experience rather than another traditional 18-hole course. Its nine par-3 holes offer a faster, more approachable format while retaining the strategy and shotmaking experienced golfers expect. The fully lighted course extends play into the evening, while its three-hole loops, compact routing, and proximity to food, beverage, entertainment, and practice amenities create opportunities for everything from warm-up rounds and friendly competitions to nighttime golf. For Legends, the new course adds another reason for resort guests and local golfers to spend more time on the property while positioning the resort to meet growing interest in shorter, more social forms of the game.
